Cead Mile Failte!

(Gaelic meaning 100,000 welcomes.  It is a symbol of love, loyalty and friendship)

My mom recently gave me some old pictures of my dad.  Dad passed away on May 24th, 1986 after a lengthy battle with diabetes.  Dad was from Greenwich, NY.  I can remember as a child mom, dad, my brother and I would load up the car and head back to his hometown so he could visit old friends.  Over the years, we watched helplessly as the disease slowly took him away.  I can remember my mom giving him an insulin injection every morning.  This eventually turned in to two and sometimes three a day.  In 1976, he was forced to retire.  This inability to control his insulin levels caused him to lose his eyesight and soon after, one leg.

Dad was a movie projectionist by trade.  This was a passion of his from the time he got out of the Navy.  I can remember him telling stories about working at The Swan Theatre, The Paramount in Glens Falls, The Rialto, The Warren Theatre in Warrensburg, The Carroll Theatre in Chestertown, Camp Arcady in Hague, Great Meadow Correctional Facility in Comstock, The Glen Drive-In, he and my mom ran the Fort George Drive-In in Lake George and his last job was Cinema 1 & 2 - Which became Cinema 1,2 & 3 - Then the Route 9 Cinemas and today is the home of Wilson's Power Sports.

I learned everything I know about movies and movie projectors from my dad.  He took great pride in all he did especially the art of running multiple movies simultaneously and never having the film run out.  I also credit him with my sense of humor.  Not a day has passed that I don't think of him and share at least one of his funny stories or quote his many words of wisdom.  I think he would be proud of all of us for the people we have become.

As for me, my name is Larry.  I am the "The Piper" and these are my "punkins".  Terri, who I married on May 12th, 2001 and "Pumpkin" who we adopted several years ago.  Now we never planned to have any pets as she loves to golf and I love to ride my motorcycle.  But when Terri's daughter Morgan moved back to Queensbury from the Carolinas, pets were not allowed in her apartment...and the rest is history.  We wouldn't trade her for anything...the cat that is.

Terri is a Patrol Officer with the local Sheriff's Office and I am the 911 Supervisor.  That is where we met.  I am a piper with the Galloway Gaelic Pipes & Drums of Glens Falls, NY.
